About Miller Law LA
Michael B. Miller is an international lawyer presently focused on business contracts, acquisitions, and start-up matters. Michael began his legal career in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and intellectual property at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York and Skadden Arps in Los Angeles, where he worked on some of the largest transactions in corporate history at the time. These included the takeovers of E.F. Hutton, Federated and Allied Stores, and R.J.R. Nabisco, as well as corporate finance transactions for Drexel Lambert and its principal, Mike Milken.
In 2008, Michael transitioned into investment management as a Managing Director of Bel Air Investment Advisers, which oversaw over $5 billion for celebrities, entertainers, high-net-worth families, and foundations. Subsequently, he became a Managing Director at Northern Trust, where he oversaw the $2.5 billion Wealth Advisory Group, which included banking, trusts, and estates. In 2016, Michael retired from the financial world, shifting his focus to select legal and business projects and the mentoring of young entrepreneurs through his newly opened Miller Law LA.
As an expert on cannabis legalization issues, in 2018, Michael launched the first podcast, CannaBusiness, focused on the business and legalities of the nascent cannabis industry on the Dash radio network. Soon after, Michael accepted the opportunity to become the first Cannabis Editor and Associate Publisher for LA Weekly, where he became a popular and well-regarded syndicated columnist and sought-after international speaker. Michael’s forward-thinking articles were published by numerous outlets including Benzinga, LA Weekly, Morningstar, Yahoo News & Finance, MSN, Merry Jane, Tucker Carlson, and the Colombia Cannabis Investor.
Michael’s children’s book, The Gift, was published the same year. Michael used his forced alone time during the COVID years to expand his legal practice and author Addicted: Drugs and the Unwon War to Stop Them, which combines a history of drug use from antiquity to the present along with post Nixon presidential drug policy with journalistic essays based on Michael's global cannabis travels and interviews.
Michael strives to fulfill the obligations of leaving the world a better place with philanthropic involvement focused on academic institutions, equal access to the arts, social justice, anti-bullying, and disease prevention.
